Health Benefits of Earthing

Health Benefits of Earthing

Earthing or also known as grounding essentially means to walk barefoot on the earth. Surfaces such as the sand, soil, and grass are all part of the earth. Of these, walking barefoot on grass has been shown to have many health benefits.

Over time, our body can accumulate an excess of free radicals which are positively charged. When this happens, they can potentially harm healthy tissue in the body, as they are always on the prowl for an additional electron. In the case of chronic stress (whether mental or physical), the immune system is overloaded with free radicals. Antioxidants from our diet help to neutralize these free radicals, but sometimes cannot keep up with the surplus. This then leads to chronic inflammation in the body, from which stem a whole array of diseases such as heart disease, high blood pressure, etc.

The earth is negatively charged with a great supply of free electrons. So when you walk barefoot on the ground, your body absorbs free electrons in ample quantities. This helps to neutralize the free radicals in our body, characteristically having effects of an antioxidant. In this manner, earthing has been shown to improve heart rate, blood viscosity, inflammation, hormones, sleep, stress, etc.

If you look from the perspective of reflexology, you can also appreciate the benefits of earthing. Our feet hold nerve endings to the rest of our body. When we walk on grass, these nerve endings get stimulated, bringing about natural healing and restoring the body to a more balanced state.

At the level of the mind, we all feel better when we’re connected with nature. The green color of grass, the freshness of the early morning dew, along with the warmth of the sun, are very healing to the mind and body.

Earthing is a great way to recharge your body. Nature holds within it healing secrets, which are waiting to be discovered. Try walking barefoot every morning for half an hour or so and gauge the improvement for yourself.
